If you’ve ever rented an apartment for any extended period of time, you probably had some run-ins with bad landlords. Sketchy property managers go with the territory, particularly here in Buffalo where aging housing supply and absentee landlords are a match made in hell.
We want to hear from anyone who’s ever been screwed over by their landlord, especially if they jacked up your rent or moved to evict you without a reasonable cause.
Your Story Has Power
Other communities around the state won Good Cause Eviction partly by people sharing their stories – stories that illustrate the need for basic rights to housing to protect from landlords putting profit margin ahead of providing housing in good-faith.
We need your Bad Landlord Story to illustrate to the Buffalo Common Council that Good Cause Eviction law is necessary, and that the threat of housing insecurity and landlord neglect are not just one-offs, but pervasive and often flagrant.
These are stories representative of a broader story about housing justice, about government, a collective response to a housing crisis and inflationary cost burden affecting most Buffalonians in one way or another. Like any given Sunday in Fall, we are all in this fight.
